Organized Opposition
Last night was the Rabun County Town Hall meeting. It was basically a forum against the so called Interstate-3 project.
The organizers of the opposition to the road say 178 people came out against the road, I guess that's possible. It seemed like a big crowd to me.
They had printouts, and fliers, and stickers cleverly featuring the symbol I-3 with a big X through it, as well as an "information table" featuring a whole bunch of "facts" on them acquired via the internet.
While I don't know if this Interstate is actually worthwhile, what I do know is that i despise organized opposition. It smacks of a sheep-like mentality, of rumor-mongering, and scare tactics. You can see this from the reliance on body counts. (178 people came out against it, so it must be wrong.)
My instinct is to immediately be on the otherside of any organized protest. Not, mind you, that I'm not for free speech, or protesting the idiocy our government can find itself attempting. But those who get my support are the lone nut holdouts, the individuals standing against the steamroller mentality of the majority, heroicly failing against the power of authority.
