Pat Robertson is a Jerk

Pat Robertson is a Jerk

Sharon is dying of a massive stroke, and Rev.Pat says, "That's what you get for being a statesman trying to find peace in a war torn region, Heretic!"

People who use their inane theocracy to justify the evil which behalfs others make me physically ill. If you want to believe that god ran you over with a bus, or gave you cancer because you are sinful, that's fine. But leave the rest of us out of it.

Of course this isn't first stupid thing Pat Robertson has said, and it won't be the last. The media jumped all over his suggestion that Hugo Chavez should be assassinated. I had no beef with that, Chavez is an aspiring leftist tyrant, who seeks with every word out of his mouth to undermine out nation.

Ariel Sharon was an ally, who'd been taking the fight to a radical islamist enemy we didn't even know we were fighting until 9/11. And he saw a way to find peace with moderate Palestinians, undermine the more radical factions, and maybe make some progress.

Cause Pat's God can't stand peace.

David,

Some people can only find meaning if God is the reason things happen to them...

"If you want to believe that god ran you over with a bus, or gave you cancer because you are sinful, that's fine. But leave the rest of us out of it."

Some people just aren't able to deal with tragedy in their lives if it isn't a punishment from God. I knew of a women that was paralyzed due to an accident when she was in her teens. She fully believed that she was paralyzed in that accident because her higher power was mad at her for having premarital sex with her boyfriend. I tend to believe that God is a loving and caring God and wouldn’t punish people in that way but other only can have meaning if a higher power is some how responsible.

These people also credit a higher power for anything good that happens to them. It’s like they’re afraid to accept the blame or the credit for their actions. While I think a strong believe in a higher power helps people cope and can give people more of a reason to strive, I have a hard time believing that a higher power is the reason for what has happened in my life. I believe that we all make choices and have to accept responsibility for our choices. And we also have to accept that some things just happen because they do.

It seems to me that the Right Wing Conservative Christian movement preaches that God is the reason for everything and that we don’t have any real control over our lives. It’s a spin machine in a way. And it honestly makes me sick when I have to deal with people who either blame a higher power or credit a higher power for things that happen to them.
