Absolutely Awesome
Bank Refuses Loans for Property Seized by Govt
This is absolutely awesome. We have six banks here in Rabun County. I would love to see all of them follow suit. In the year i've been here, we haven't seen anything that really seems to be like eminent domain abuse. Whether that's because the big developers already own pretty much everything which isn't Forest Service land, I don't know. The cases of land seizures I'm familiar with involve the Highway. And while the aesthetic value of a highway might be challenged, it is the "Point" of having eminent domain, as opposed to creating strip malls out of people's houses.
But If i do catch any political entities in Rabun County abusing property seizures, I know the radio station will be on them like White on Rice and a glass of milk in the middle of a snow storm.

There was a story in the Minneapolis StarTribune recently about land being taken for a retail development and then the retail giant also receive tax incetives as well. Now that's rediculous.
Let's take someone's land and then decide you don't have to pay for it or pay property taxes on it.
Are we really a free country?
I'm all for encouraging industry, and retail business. But let them buy the property they want. It's called an "investment." If Grandpa Frank doesn't want to move from his shack, find a price that'll change his mind, or find a new spot. Using the 900 lbs gorilla of government to force him out is criminal.
