Shake Up at the Water Authority?
The Clayton-Rabun Water and Sewer Authority meets today for a called meeting. This is big news, because the Authority never has called meetings. Not in the 11 months I've been here. On the Agenda:
"Discuss the composition of the Clayton-Rabun Water and Sewer Authority". There are some important things to consider when thinking about this issue.
1. Water and Sewer is the most important money making item for Clayton. Given its leaks, and other problems, Clayton lives or dies by its water. Mayor Ramey has focused a vast majority of his attention on water leaks and similar issues.
2. Former Mayor Danny Gillespie, and Former City Manager Henry Burrell, are Clayton's Representation on the Water Authority.
I believe that there will be a move to remove Gillespie and Burrel from the Authority. What form that move will take I don't know. I should know more by 4:00 pm today after the meeting. The last I'd heard on this issue was from Authority Chairman Allen Taylor, who said, "This board won't change except for a death or resignation"
We'll see if thats the case.

2 Comments:
Sometimes for things to change the only thing that makes that occur is a death or resignation.
BTW I wasn't even close on this one. The change was to add an additional county member to the authority, to equal the 3 from the city of Clayton. The reason for that is because the Authority wants to expand to county wide sewer services, and it won't get the support of the board of commissioners unless the Authority has equal representation from both governments. It looks like the City of Clayton representatives won't go for it, particularly because they don't think they can get it past the Clayton City Council.
This should remind me that politics is not always personalities, organizations also have their own logic.
