"It is the policy of the United States to seek and support democratic movements and institutions in every nation and culture...

... With the ultimate goal of ending tyranny in our world."
With the release of the National Security Strategy, its once again affirmed, the ONLY reason I'm a Bush supporter:
The man can't keep spending down to save his life,
He's too religious for my taste,
He's not charismatic,
He did manage to appoint two winning Supreme Court Justices but only with some help.
But, he understands two things:
1. We are at war with Islamic extremism, in a battle as crucial as the ones against fascism or communism.
2. Freedom must be on the offensive. We must be rolling back dictatorships, particularly in the Middle East. If we sit back in isolation, we will eventually be overwhelmed.
Those two issues should dictate our foreign policy, and so far it has. And where it hasn't, Bush should be called to the Carpet. I'm unpleased with the following:
DARFUR- Islamist Militias exterminating black africans with the government's help. Sudan, aka Osama's summer quarters in the 90s. Why do they deserve any slack? If we don't have the resources to intervene fully, than its time for the great allies the Democrats keep insisting we have. France, Germany, you didn't want to go to Iraq, but this one should be right up your alley. If I had my way, we'd dispatch a team of gunships, which would mow down the Janjaweed militias if they formed into groups larger than what would be necessary to play a hand of hearts. If that doesn't work for you, than do something else, but DO SOMETHING.
Danish Cartoon Jihad- Start firing some people at the State Department. Keep firing them until they understand that Freedom of Speech is unconditional.Freedom not to be offended is non-existent. Especially when the offense is coming from fabricated cartoons touted by extremist imans. A little Sammenhold please?
Iraq- Stop with the apologizing about WMDs. Start pointing out what everyone who pays attentions knows, and everyone else refuses to recognize. Our troops in Iraq have been ATTACKED BY WMDs. shells filled with Sarin and Mustard gas used as IEDs. Not often, but it has happened. And General Sada, a high ranking Iraqi air force commander is basically screaming to anyone who will listen (and only the NY Post will apparently) that Saddam took advantage of a humanitarian crisis to fly chemical and biological weapons to Syria.
Iran- 85 million to pip in communications into Iranian dissenters is a good start. But that's about how much the first day of airstrikes will cost, if we have to take out their nuclear weapons program. I think we can spare a little more for the Iranian opposition.
Middle Eastern Democracy (+Pakistan)- To play on our team you need to sign up for the full package. That means real opposition parties, free press, open societies. Now we don't need a bunch of HAMAS parties getting elected, but the regimes who've lined up to join in the war on terror need to be headed in the right direction. We've seen some positive results, but we need to keep a close eye on them.
In conclusion, Bush's National Security Policy is the right policy for the United States. Let's just make sure we stick to it.
