This is the area where I impart my wisdom about politics, international relations, and the state of the world in general. No, I am not deluded enough to imagine this matters much to anyone.

Forget Foley, there are bigger fish to fry.

In case you live in a hole, a Florida Congressman was forced to resign because he engaged in sexual discussions over instant messenging. While its not really clear if the law was broken, clearly Foley lacks the moral authority to lead. He's resigned. Good riddance.

Let's move on.

I am becoming increasingly depressed with situation in regards to the war against Islamic Fascism. With the confuzzled stupidity of the west in refusing to support Israel against Hezobollah, with the Pope retreating in the face of basic scholarly statements, because he quoted a 600+ year old source. There have been bright moments, but they are few and far between. Bush finally picked up the Islamofacism title, but there has been preciously little action. I'm not talking in the field, where our troops continue to crush the jihadis wherever they poke up their heads, but in the arena of public opinion we continue to retreat, retreat and retreat more.

We used to think that the internet was our refuge, where we could take on the mainstream media which essentially backs the enemy by claiming to be "unbias". But it appears even in that field of endeavor we are losing. YouTube, the increasingly popular streaming video site blocks pro-israel, pro-american videos, but not jihadists. Says the NYT. They booted blogger's Michelle Malkin and the JawaReport.

There was an article on Drudge yesterday (I can't find the link now) which indicated at least some French Police officials were willing to admit what is basically an "intifada" (*their word choice not mine) in their welfare state created ghettos.

The Baron and Fjordman at the Gates of Vienna are more optimistic, but only slightly.

So go ahead o' leaders of ours. Have dalliances with pages, spend more time focused on your pet power projects and pork, do everything humanly possible to avoid recognizing that whether we like it or not the conflict is essential upon us. The barbarians will be at the gates, and our leadership will be asking:

MAF54: "Soo.... whatcha wearing?"

The truth of the matter is Americans want instant gratification and the war in Iraq and the war against terrorism can’t be won in the wink of an eye. Americans have become afraid of death. They’ve become afraid to fight.

While I consider myself more of a moderate and you consider me a liberal, we can both agree that the popular opinion in this country has been won by the drive-by media. And no matter what conservative radio talk shows, commentary on FOX news or the political right bloggers say or do, the left has done a better job getting their messages to the masses.

You are absolutely right. For instance how many people know that sarin gas was discovered in Iraq. How many people know that it was Richard Armitage and not Karl Rove who leaked Valerie Plame's name. How many people know, for that matter, that the British government continues to stand by its Niger-Yellow Cake Uranium assessment?
I listened to CBS News on the Radio just after the Hezbollah-Israel conflict, and I kid you not they said, "a Shaky cease-fire continues to hold as Hezbollah fired a series of Katuysha Rockets into Haifa today, and Israeli Commands shot dead 3 Hezbollah guerillas." How can we take seriously a Media which can talk about a cease-fire holding in the same report it describes continued violence? I sit and scream at radio because ultimately they either DIDN'T say anything at all, or said things which are blatantly false (as a quick google-search often shows)
