Iranian Training Camps for Terror

Check out where it says, “In most camps, the Sunnis outnumber the Shiites”, and, “The scale and breadth of Qods Force operations in Iraq are far beyond what we did even during the war with Saddam”.

Just for the record, that information comes by way of RegimeChangeIran.blogspot.com, from another website, which Doc. Zin describes as "Pro-MEK". MEK is a designated terrorist organization, so grain of salt.

Thanks to everyone who attended

And those keeping Ray and his Family in their prayers. I'm pleased to announce that the benefit held at Aces and Eights last Thursday was by all reports a smashing success with several thousand dollars raised for the Ray Bunn Defense Fund, and a good time had by all. I know it really makes my brother feel good to see the support from his fellow cops, and especially from the common citizens.

I'm told that we've heard lots of comments of support, especially from the business community in Buckhead. It is those places whose businesses lose money, and whose patrons don't feel safe, because thieves move at will through the parking lots of Zone 2. If you are a patron of Buckhead, tell the establishments you visit, that you felt safer when Ray Bunn was on the job... Then tell them to join you in contributing to the Ray Bunn Defense Fund.. And when we win our day in court, to anyone who runs against Paul Howard for District Attorney.

Some Folks in Rabun County Might Decide Stekoa Creek is Navigable

Once again... let's say it together, "If you want to decide what happens to a piece of property.... BUY IT YOURSELF!"

54% of people get their news from the Radio

That seems Low to me...

While 54% is a respectable number, I think it's too low. While we may be losing numbers because more people are listening to cd players and mp3s while in their vehicles, we still get them at work. If you asked people around here, I bet more people would say they got their news from the newspaper, because they are conditioned to say that, even though they hear the news every morning or night on the radio. Because if you pick up a newspaper, or turn on the local tv news, you are "getting your news" that is to say, seeking it out. But if you hear the radio news, you were informed... but you weren't seeking the news, when you turned on the radio.

SKY 104...You'll Listen and You'll LIKE IT.. (or else)

Absolutely Awesome

Bank Refuses Loans for Property Seized by Govt

This is absolutely awesome. We have six banks here in Rabun County. I would love to see all of them follow suit. In the year i've been here, we haven't seen anything that really seems to be like eminent domain abuse. Whether that's because the big developers already own pretty much everything which isn't Forest Service land, I don't know. The cases of land seizures I'm familiar with involve the Highway. And while the aesthetic value of a highway might be challenged, it is the "Point" of having eminent domain, as opposed to creating strip malls out of people's houses.

But If i do catch any political entities in Rabun County abusing property seizures, I know the radio station will be on them like White on Rice and a glass of milk in the middle of a snow storm.

Defending Denmark

Even as the Germans put a person in jail for "offending Islam", folks are standing up to defend free speech. Not the mass media of course, but I think we've ruled them out at this point anyway. Hitchens (much referenced here on DKrepublic, I've been a fan since his "Why Orwell Matters",) is holding a demonstration of support outside the Danish Embassy. Today in fact. So if you happen to be in the DC area, by all means show up. That's what I'd do. (if I had to call in sick with a Dhimmitude allergy flare-up, so be it.)

Moussaoui can't find a jury pool...

that he likes..

His defense attorney's complaint? Too many members of the jury pool have some relative or family friend who was killed or injured in the 9/11 attack.

It is some how the fault of our judicial system that Moussaoui's Al-Qaeda buddies killed so many Americans.

Gee, should have thought about that before you enlisted in Jihad Zac..

Pathetic.

One Party the Cops Are Sure Not to Shut Down!

On Thursday Feb, 23rd at 287 East Paces Ferry Rd, there will be a benefit for my brother, Ray Bunn. As those of you who are regular readers of the blog know, the politically insane District Attorney of Fulton County, Paul Howard, is trying my brother for defending himself and his partner in the line of duty.

If you are a Georgia Police Officer, or just appreciate what the police do for people, Please attend. As stated above. its at 287 East Paces Ferry Rd, at the former "Coyote Ugly" now called "Aces and Eights". Cover is a 20 donation, and there will be a silent auction as well and drink specials.

So if you want to live in a world where the criminals are granted immunity from prosecution, so they can run over (literally) the peace officers who protect your lives and property, than feel free to do nothing. But if you want to send a message to those in power, who make an alliance with criminals in order to advance their political career, than please attend.

My brother needs your support.

Brilliant Move Jimmy!

Ex-President Jimmy Carter has announced that he supports President Bush on the UAE Port's deal according to a Drudge Report headline this morning.

Brilliant work Jimmy. It's like routing for the team you want to lose when you know you are bad luck. If there is anything guaranteed to change Bush's mind about this deal, it will be Carter's approval.

Good work President Carter... Have a Billy Beer on me.

Complaints Get Me Down...

I suppose you're expected to have a thick skin in the job of newsman. The truth is I'm about as thinned skinned as they come, largely because I'm much harder on myself than any critic potentially could be, so hearing complaints is an added helping of stress to the blistering self admonishment I've already given myself.

Take for instance, the email we recieved here at the station, essentially castigating our News department (that would be me, at least, when I get a chance to wear that hat anymore. Half of me anyway.) The person who wrote in basically says all we do is report meetings, and says he/she gets more information out of their scanner and gossip than they do from the station. As it happens, I have a scanner, and it keeps me up all night with its incessant squawking. You know how much scanner traffic turns into a legitimate news story?

Now remember its our policy that we only do police news for adults who face actual charges from felonies.

try .0000000001 percent.

If you want to read the names of all your neighbors that have been cited for jaywalking, you can do that on Thursday Morning.

As for the meetings, yes, we do a lot of meeting news. Unfortunately that's the only time I get unrestricted access to the movers and shakers, doing something like approximately speaking their minds. I consider the reporting I do there important.

I don't want to be an E! reporter, feeding people's morbid curiousity. Now if its an accident that results in someones serious injury or death, yes its news, and should be reported. But the fender bender outside Wal-mart is not news.

I know that news is a mixture between what people need to hear, and what people want to hear. I guess I should try to include more of what they want to hear.

Criminals Ugly

It actually reminds me of an article written by George Orwell, called "Ugly Leaders" which talked about the hidious appearance of leaders, particularly in dictatorships. Take for instance any of these fine specimens.

Georgia House passes School Club Law

The Georgia House of Representatives has passed a bill which will require schools notify parents of clubs their children are participating in.

I wouldn't ordinarily have a problem with this. After all, parents pay for the expenses incurred by participating in such clubs, along with school taxes. They are also their child's guardian. I've said before I believe that a child's rights are held in trust by their parents. So a child has freedom to assemble, except where that's ruled against by the parent.

So far so good.

My problem comes not from the basic logic of the bill. It comes from the motivation. It seems clear, from observation, that the bill is intended to kill support for gay-rights clubs in schools. I make that deduction from observing the comments of those who have proposed the bills, which apparently arose from an issue with a gay-related organization in a White County School. That its cloaked in the language of parent empowerment is not an improvement.

A reasonable bill, which comes from a place of prejudice is no longer a reasonable bill.

Now as far as I know, schools would not be able to limit a parents inquiry into what clubs their student was a member of. Any parent with a concern would certainly be able to examine where his/her children spends their time while in school (as I think, a reasonable parent would.) So if a parent doesn't know what clubs their kid is a member of ALREADY, than they aren't much good as a parent.

Now I'll never be accused of being a huge supporter of the Gay-Rights lobby. I've issues with their agenda and the language in which they cover their argument. but the House of Representatives is empowering parents for the wrong reasons and in the wrong way.

France takes head out of sand...

France Sees the Light

This is the third announcement by France that they aren't completely blind. The first was President Chirac's seemingly out-of-the blue announcement about France's Nuclear deterrent. That was followed by a story in the news featuring information about France's increased nuclear capability, which cannot be interpreted except as another signal by France.

Of course France has to refer to their nuclear arsenal, because frankly they have no other arsenal. They know darn well Iran is seeking nuclear weapons, and since the Parisian Suburb riots, they've learned that their surrender before the shooting starts policy isn't going to keep them from being a target by Iranian backed terror groups as the Iranians work by hook and by crook to insure dominance over the middle east.

Alabama Cop kills suspect after being struck by car is justified

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- A Tuscaloosa County, Alabama grand jury ruled that a deadly police shooting late last year was justified. The case involves Robert Curtis, who was shot and killed on October 15 outside a Tuscaloosa apartment complex. The fatal shooting followed a high speed chase, which ended when Curtis struck another car. Police said Curtis had refused to obey officers' orders to stop. Investigators said when Curtis drove his vehicle against the body of an officer, he was shot and killed. The grand jury found the shooting justified because the officers acted in self-defense. The injured officer returned to work last week after undergoing surgery and rehabilitation.

No word yet if Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard plans to request extradition.

Kofi Kowers

Again. (hat tip RegimeChangeIran.blogspot.Com)

You know Kofi, I didn't see you urging the Iranians to calm down their rhetoric, as they advocate the annhilation of Israel, issue denials of the Holocaust, or funnel money and guns to undermine the fledgling democracy of Iraq and Lebanon through their subsidary Hezbollah. (with Syria also a major stockholder)

Aren't you coming off a little cheap Kofi? At least Saddam paid you and your cronies off in order to recieve defense as they committed violations of UN Sanctions.

You can speak these words out of the same mouth which you use to call for American peacekeepers for Darfur, where you continue to twiddle your thumbs as Islamist militias loyal to the Sudanese government (Motto: "We had Osama before he was Cool!) commit genocide.

Pathetic.

Governor Unfortunately Wrong on Constitutional Amendement

Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue wants to amend the Georgia Constitution to allow faith based groups to recieve public funds.

“no money shall ever be taken from the public treasury, directly or indirectly,
in aid of any church, sect, cult, or religious denomination or of any sectarian
institution.”

Thats how the constitution in Georgia reads. Perdue wants to change that to read,

“Paragraph VII. Separation of church and state. Except as permitted or
required by the United States Constitution, as amended, no money shall ever be
taken from the public treasury, directly or indirectly, in aid of any church,
sect, cult, or religious denomination or of any sectarian institution.”

Now I respect Perdue's opinion, particularly since he has intelligently framed the discussion as a question of whether government institutions are as effective as non-governmental institutions in providing certain services. naturally, as a libertarian such a move seems good to me.

My problem is two-fold. The first is that it opens up Georgia to all manners of lawsuits, as groups continue to debate exactly what it is the Constitution of the United States actually says regarding public funds for religious groups. Secondly, the gratitious association of the statute with the Federal constitution is both unnecessary and unwise. The state of Georgia, in its founding, chose purposefully to tighten its restrictions in wording more explicit than the Federal government. Many of the state legislatures chose to do likewise during their founding. The unnecessary tying of the Georgia Constitution to the US constitution is another example of states throwing their arms up in the air, and allowing the federal government to legislate for them.

Perdue says Katrina showed us that faith based groups can respond better than government organizations. He's right about that. But what it also showed us is that state and local officials need to recognize that they are also the rulers of their dominions. They have assets (National Guard, Police, GEMA for the state, and Police, Fire, Rescue, School buses, and more for the local authorities) and the right, and duty to utilize them.

The continued surrender of local power to the federal government is an error. The federal government exists only for those problems which are national in scope, (foreign affairs, international trade, and preciously little else)

I sit and watch as the local governments here simply adopt ordinances which simply reflect State requirements, instead of taking the opportunity to craft laws which more appropriately reflect their surroundings. Which is, after all, one of the major points of even HAVING a federal system. To see the state making the same mistake is frustrating to say the least.

You might think that this is quibbling, but its not. The language of Perdue's amendment was no doubt chosen BECAUSE its more likely to get approval.

The State assembly's ancestors would be grossly disturbed.

China's Web monitoring the same as West

"After studying Internet legislation in the West, I've found we basically have identical legislative objectives and principles," says Liu Zhengrong vice head of the Beijing Department for Internet Affairs Bureau of the State Council Information Office, now a wholly owned subisidary of Google.

What Bureaucrat X fails to mention, is that the Chinese Government is not bound by its own laws, where as free societies face censure from a free press, and in free courts.

It's all the more heinous for its hypocrisy.

Shake Up at the Water Authority?

The Clayton-Rabun Water and Sewer Authority meets today for a called meeting. This is big news, because the Authority never has called meetings. Not in the 11 months I've been here. On the Agenda:

"Discuss the composition of the Clayton-Rabun Water and Sewer Authority". There are some important things to consider when thinking about this issue.

1. Water and Sewer is the most important money making item for Clayton. Given its leaks, and other problems, Clayton lives or dies by its water. Mayor Ramey has focused a vast majority of his attention on water leaks and similar issues.

2. Former Mayor Danny Gillespie, and Former City Manager Henry Burrell, are Clayton's Representation on the Water Authority.

I believe that there will be a move to remove Gillespie and Burrel from the Authority. What form that move will take I don't know. I should know more by 4:00 pm today after the meeting. The last I'd heard on this issue was from Authority Chairman Allen Taylor, who said, "This board won't change except for a death or resignation"

We'll see if thats the case.

Article 4

The Parties will consult together whenever, in the opinion of any of them,

That's from the NATO Charter. Given attacks on embassies throughout the Middle East I'd say Denmark has every right to invoke an Article 4 consultation by NATO. Particluarly given the circumstantial evidence coming out that the acts of violence might be orchestrated.

That will get the attention of your incompetent allies who are too busy being Dhimmi to stand up and support your country. And it'll set the lines clear. You attend the consultation, you go down in the Good guy column, you fail, and We nickname you "Chamberlain" forever more.

Rally Behind the Danes

I've never met a dane I didn't like. They joined the coalition in Iraq, and have been excellent allies. To pretend that these demostrations in the muslim world are spontaneous, or anything other than an orchestrated plan to intimidate the western world is a joke. I know only of the New York Sun and the Philadelphia Inquirer who have had the stomach to actually stand up and support their fellow journalists by actually publishing the pictures..

In case you don't understand the background of the case, its not like the danish paper published the pictures just to start a row. They were responding to an issue in their community, where a local danish writer could not find a illustrator for his children's book about world religions, because they were frightened of immigrant muslims reacting violently. You will recall that a film maker was shot dead in that region of the world after making a film about women's rights in muslim countries.

The pansy-waist MSM in this country continues to report, "pictures of the prophet Muhammed are blasphemous in Islam," when in fact no such blanket rule exists. the question of portraying pictures of humans in Islamic tradition is debated by scholars.

Exhibit A:

That's a Medieval depiction of the Prophet from Persia. (AKA IRAN, who, btw, is currently busy encouraging the torching of the Danish Embassy, in just one of many acts of war they routinely commit against western nations inthe course of a regular day.)

The Bush Administrations weak support for "freedom of speech" has been pitiful. America doesn't just support freedom of speech, America IS freedom of speech. What's the worst that could happen that we can't speak out for it, terrorists might try to blow up our buildings, or kidnap our people? Oh.. wait, we've got that covered.

So with the Europeans finally seeing the effect that their weak wristed foreign policy has earned them, the time is right to back them 150%. With any luck they'll see that we were right to prosecute the war against totalitarian islamist ideologues.

That's not to say that we don't have allies in the muslim world. Clearly there are people there who want and see the need for change. the editor of a syrian newspaper lost his job because he pointed out what should be obvious... "cutting people's heads off with a sword, or blowing up wedding parties, is a bigger sin than publishing pictures." There are plenty of people in the muslim world, who know that you can wear jeans, listen to rock 'n roll, and still pray 5 times a day. These people need to show a little leadership. And I believe they will, with help from us.
